1. Designed by SLTs, for SLTs

The Ogma Assistant isn’t just any language model: It’s trained specifically for the unique needs of speech and language therapy. We collaborated with SLTs to teach the AI the terminology, reporting standards, and nuanced observations that are crucial in this field. By using real SLT data (always anonymised and compliant with NHS data-privacy standards), we’ve created a tool that genuinely understands what matters in your field, from expressive language milestones to social communication goals.

2. Transcribing Session Recordings with Automatic Speech Recognition

One of the biggest strengths of the Ogma Assistant is its ability to “understand” children speaking! Using custom speech recognition tech designed specifically to understand children, the Ogma Assistant first creates an accurate transcription of your sessions. This is harder than it might sound, as most speech recognition AIs are trained on adult’s voices. As you’ll know, children don’t always talk like adults, especially if they struggle with speech and language impairment! 

That’s why we’re building our own child-focused speech recognition AIs. We’re really proud to say they transcribe records of when children make mistakes, and progress! These transcriptions form the basis of all the next steps, and are essential to creating detailed, accurate, insightful reports.

3. Understanding Your Notes with Natural Language Processing (NLP)

The next step is to understand and analyse the transcription of a session, as well as any notes you might have taken, which you can easily upload to the Ogma Assistant. Using Natural Language Processing (NLP), a specialised branch of AI, the Ogma Assistant can analyse and interpret the session transcriptions, as well as your notes,  identifying essential information that helps craft clear, concise reports.

So, whether you jot down detailed session observations or shorthand notes, our AI reads through the content, synthesises your observations with the session transcription, and detects patterns and key terms to ensure the resulting report is accurate and insightful. These reports are designed in collaboration with Speech and Language Therapists, and have always been created with input from real-world clinicians across the industry. 

4. Turning Notes into Structured Reports with Language Generation

Once the AI understands your notes, it employs another AI technique, called Natural Language Generation (NLG), to create well-organised, professional reports. This step involves more than just converting notes into sentences – it requires the AI to arrange information logically and ensure clarity.

For example, if you note specific language patterns or behaviours, the Ogma Assistant generates structured sections on communication goals, observed behaviours, or recommended interventions, creating a consistent, streamlined format that’s easy to share with other professionals and caregivers.
